TSRF 1/24 Scale races, September 17, 2005

Buena Park, CA

Sterrett again by two, ahem, technical laps!

The race for 1/24 scale TSRF cars was run on the "Hillclimb" track. Qualifying proceeded with a few national-level  and former national champs starring at the top of the list. Tore Anderson and a few others arrived too late to race.

Qualifying

Chris Radisich used his well-worn but still very fast former rental car, and that thing moves. Mike Steube ran the soon-to-be-released Courage-Peugeot LMP body but could not make his car work as well as in the previous week. Daniel Snipe and Dennis Samson were new to the class and did quite well with their new cars, Dennis having a tough time to comprehend the driving requirements of these cars. He will improve during the race.

Race

The race was very tight, with Philippe always in contention with his heavy "handicap-special" hard-shell Tamiya-bodied Porsche GT. Paul Sterrett could never relax, and at the end, a mere 2 (corrected) laps made the difference.

Sam Brown drove his usual consistent race and was a mere 5 laps behind "Iceman" Paul Sterrett, who never got off once, as usual.

Mike Steube was in a bit of trouble with his previous-week winner, ending in 4th place with an inconsistent car, Eventually he found that the guide pin retaining nut had worked loose. Chris Radisich, using a car that is still fitted with the old plastic blade guide, found the limit too often and put himself out of contention quite quickly. Behind, the mayhem was constant but Greg Carter and Rick Salvino survived best. For his first race, Daniel Snipes used his new car to good effect and ran a prudent race. Paul Wilde kept losing his Lancia by over-driving it, while Dennis Samson, also in his first race, had an exercise is personal frustration. A minute is a very long time to wait... Drag racer Oscar Smith limped to last, still not used to the finesse of using the whole trigger range on his controller.
