TSR 1/24 Scale June 17, 2006
Buena Park, CA
8th 2006 SoCal Championship Points Race
Weight is not the enemy!
Scott Corwin led the first 3 heats of the NASCAR race over Paul Sterrett. Paul took over the lead in the fourth segment, but eventually Mike Steube who had not run the first two heats due to the rotation, had piled a ton of lead on his Chevrolet and simply drove away from the much lighter car driven by Paul Sterrett. Dennis Samson was third, 3 laps down from Paul, with Scott Corwin taking fourth another 8 laps down. For his return to slot car racing after 38 years, Keith Tanaka set fastest lap with a fast but unpredictable loaner car due to its excessively light weight, in fact not the minimum legal weight. Official fast lap went to Philippe de Lespinay who could not keep his car long enough in the slot to pack the laps. More weight was needed here too...
The rules mandated a 60-gram body/cockpit minimum, with a total car weight of at least 200 grams. In fact, Mike's car weighed at 250 grams, the heaviest car in the race. Not the fastest but obviously the easiest to drive. Mike made no mistakes and cruised to an easy win.

Scott Corwin's Ford featured a fully-detailed cockpit. With the required minimum body/cockpit weight, it is a good option. Scott drove a good race to 4th place.

|
Concours was won by the Ford Taurus built by Philippe de Lespinay. The car performed well but was simply too light and too unpredictable, finished 27 laps in arrears. |
|
The TSR Lexan cockpit was enhanced by parts from the Revell static kit such as dash, steering wheel and driver. Only the tubular cage was missing due to lack of time on hand. |
