The Dokk wins his own race. Do I smell cheating?
We had
the 15 cars from the Phoenix race and got 15 entries, thanks all of you for the
charitable donation to the Marconi Foundation. Every little bit adds up. The
race ran late so we lost a few starters who had to go home for various reasons.
Entry list:
1-Josh Bauer
2-Mike Aguirre, had to leave, replaced by Barry Obler.
3-John Emmons
4-Mickey Johnston
5-Dennis Hill
6-Paul Sterrett
7-John Sinz
8-Scott Jarrett
9-Rick Salvino
10-Sam Brown
11-Paul Watkins, had to leave, replaced by Ken Dylke
12-Ridge Ellis
13-"John" Tore Anderson
14-"Pops" Larsen
15-Philippe de Lespinay
The race was run with stock 1/32 scale TSRF "Club" chassis fitted with patriotic
stars-&-stripes Slot.It Porsche 956C bodies. The format was IROC, meaning that
the drivers were able to drive all the cars in their lane-change sequence.
Marshals picked de-slotted cars off the lanes and replaced them at the end of
each 1-minute racing period.
Run on Buena Park's "Hillclimb" track that had just been cleaned but was very
"green", the race was quite intense in concentration from the participants,
since any "off" would mean a possible one-minute penalty. Except for a few
racers who have yet to discovers the virtues of the various controller resistor
bands set between the "on" and "off" trigger position, and also beset with
controllers a bit too quick for the TSRF/Falcon motors, most really showed fine
and consistent driving, entire segments being covered with no de-slotting.
Paul Sterrett went into an immediate lead and looked like he would win yet
another TSRF race, but he lost it a couple of times and that was enough for
Philippe, driving conservatively and trying not to blink too often, to top him
for the first time. Scott Jarrett kept cool and fast to seize 3rd place, with
Uncle Kal's Josh Bauer a fine 4th.
Fastest lap was turned by Paul Sterrett with a quick 6.152", compared to a
rather slow 7.359" for the winner.

Looks like the racers really liked the cars, several having no previous racing
experience with actual-scale cars with wheels-tires sizes in relation to the
real-life prototypes. And it is quite a change in driving technique... and quite
a bit more demanding in driving discipline.
Next TSRF race will be Saturday PM at BP for 1/24 lexan-body GTP/LMP/ALMS/Group-C
cars. Injected-body cars will benefit of a handicap to make things more fair.
Remember the rules: you CANNOT remove any part of the chassis, but you may ADD
weight and reinforcing material, namely:
-brass tubing around the front axle
-chassis and steel pan may be bolted together
-spacers may be added to the rear axle to widen the track. Maximum width of
rear-axle assembly may not exceed 3.25".
TSRF is now offering ready-to-race 1/24 scale USRA cars with pre-painted and
mounted bodies with choice of Lancia LC2, Porache 956C or BMW V12 LMP, with all
allowed re-inforcements and of course the steel pin guide.
