TSRF 1/32 Scale April 29, 2006
Buena Park, CA
5th 2006 SoCal Championship Points Race
Sam Brown Humbles Them All.
The fifth TSR Championship Race was for 1/24 scale TSR cars with with weigh at least 150 grams on the Buena Park Kingleman track. New ball-shaped pins were used as we had problems with lifting braid in the previous races and a solution had to be found to resolve what could become a serious challenge to running such races on a routed wood track. It appeared to have greatly improved the conditions as no incidence of damage was recorded in spite of many de-slotting by most except... Sam Brown who just ran away from everybody. Paul Sterrett also had a couple of incidents and lost some ground on Sam. "John" Tore Anderson ran an uneven race, but survived in third place.
Mike Steube was first torpedoed by the errand car of Jonathan Dinwiddie in the very first lap of the second segment, then he lost his concentration in another occasion and that was it. He still set the fastest lap of the race.
Philippe de Lespinay ran a perfect race until he hit the dreaded black lane where he parked the car no less that thrice, ending his chances.
Behind, Roger Uusitalo ran a fair race but was unable to make a serious impression. He still kept Yoshi Akiyama and Dennis Samson at bay. Dennis had serious launching problems on the blue lane, his car hitting the banking twice and ruining any chances of a top finish. Scott Corwin still has a tough time mastering the Kingleman and motored to a 9th place finish. Ray Gonzales cleared himself from the youthful but errand Jonathan Dinwiddie while his brother James fared better in 10th place in a race fraught with incidents.
The Concours was judged by drag racer Ken Hall and was won by the BMW of Dennis Samson over that of Paul Sterrett, Yoshi Akiyama and Tore Anderson.
