TAMIYA-TSRF Porsche 962: a marriage made in heaven.
The great 1/24 scale Tamiya TamTech body of the Porsche 962, the most successful of the Group C cars of the 1980's, has been re-issued by Tamiya in various static kits. This body is not only beautiful, but has the headlight covers and windows molded directly into the main casting, following in the footsteps of the 1960's K&B slot racing cars. It is also ideal for use on the new TSRF24 chassis.

The body kit comes in yellow or white,
and has all the necessary elements to build a perfect scale model. Here,
the under-tray has been shortened to fit behind the chassis.
Build the TSRF24 chassis kit, using the longest possible wheelbase (4.5") Since we are building this car for wood track use, the long guide pin TSC12 and sponge tires mounted on aluminum rear wheels are used. |

Install the body on top of the steel pan (do NOT mount it on the outer part of the steel pan) and center the wheel wells over the tires. Install the Automatic Body Mounting Tool T2407 (it keys into the steel pan slots) and fit a # 73 drill in a X-Acto handle. Hold the mounting tool/body/chassis assembly with one hand, and drill the front mounting hole. Install a straight pin and slightly curve it to give it some springiness, and repeat the operation three more times. Your body is now mounted. |

If you did a good job, your car is now looking like this. |

Trim and install the ground-effects
under-tray until it fits while leaving 1/16" clearance to the chassis
to allow the body to move freely.
Do not glue the under-tray on the body until the body has been painted. |
| The interior from the Tamiya kit needs little alterations to fit over the steel pan. Make sure to adjust it so as to also provide clearance for the roof. It will need a bit of trimming there. Affix the interior to the steel pan using 0-80 bolts and nuts. | ![]() |

If using Pro-Track wheels and tires, don't forget to use Sonic 3/32" aluminum spacers on the rear axle. It would be a good idea to also use the new TSRF 45T setscrew spur gear as an upgrade. |
